Men's Wedding Shoes 101

March 15, 2019

Spring isn’t the only season approaching. Wedding season is coming up, which means you’re getting ready to don your best suit and put your best foot forward in a classy pair of kicks. Whether you’re in the wedding or attending it, you’re going to need the right shoe. We’re here to share a few tips and tricks for finding the perfect pair and to suggest a few new intros from our spring collection that will help anchor your look just right.

The No. 1 factor to consider: Location, location, location

Not every suit or shoe can fit in everywhere. When picking out your shoes, and your entire outfit, consider the location of the wedding. Is it at a downtown church or in a rustic space like a barn or farm? Also, consider the season and the time of the wedding.

Typically, if you’re in the wedding, you’re probably deciding between a brown or black shoe. As a general rule of thumb, brown shoes are on the more casual side while black shoes bring an air of sophistication with them. So, for example, if you’re going to be in an outdoor wedding in the summer, brown shoes will probably be the best pair for your suit. Black shoes will be a better fit for evening weddings or wedding in the cooler seasons. You can use these same guiding principles when dressing as a wedding guest. However, these are designed to be suggestions more than hard rules.

Our Picks

Knox Espresso Cap-toe Sneakers

Comfortable, cool and ready for anything, these brown cap-toe sneakers are perfect for a groom, his guys or an attendee, especially if the tone of the wedding is more relaxed. Pair them with a blue suit if you’re in the wedding or, if you’re a guest, pair the white-soled Knox with a poplin suit, blue dress shirt and seasonal tie. Knox is perfect for any season and nearly every occasion after the big day too. Wear him from season to season, from work to play and from day to night.

Dylan Navy Cap-toe Lace Ups

Here to support the texture craze taking over the wedding world, Dylan combines plush Italian Merino wool with chic pebbled calfskin leather for a classy yet unique cap-toe shoe. Have a winter wedding coming up? Wear Dylan with a slate grey suit, pinstripe button-up and a burgundy slim tie if you’re in the wedding. If you’re a guest, a gray suit is also a great option. Get it in wool for extra warmth and pair it with a turtleneck or white dress shirt and seasonal tie.

Abe Cognac Penny Loafers

It doesn’t get more classic than Abe. Ditch the laces and still achieve a classy, wedding-appropriate look with a blend of luxurious caramel calfskin leather and buttery cognac sheepskin suede. Simple yet chic, Abe has a timeless silhouette that goes with a variety of suiting. If you’re headed to a destination wedding, we couldn’t recommend a better shoe. Pair him with white chinos, a light blue button-down and a coordinating cognac sports coat. You can also ace the formal wedding look by wearing Abe with a three-piece textured gray suit, a white dress shirt and a navy tie for a more formal wedding.

Benjamin

When in doubt, reach for a classic. Though not a style from our new spring collection, Benjamin is a favorite for grooms, groomsmen and guests alike. Each hue is rich with sophistication and carries details and texture that make every outfit special. No matter when or where the wedding is, a variation of Benjamin will help you suit up or dress up on the big day.
